DagWorld is the app for the published work of Dag Heward-Mills. Almost everything in the app is one author's copyrighted work, so this page sets out who owns what, what your account lets you do with it, and how to tell us if something in the app should not be there.

DagWorld is operated by Benlottejnr Apps of Hitchin, United Kingdom. Copyright questions and notices go to support@dagworld.org.

Who owns the content

The books, the quoted passages, the music, the video and the recorded messages in DagWorld are the copyright of Dag Heward-Mills. Their appearance in DagWorld is not a licence to copy the work elsewhere.

Benlottejnr Apps owns the app itself: the software, the design, the DagWorld name and logo, the search index, the theme tagging and the way the catalogue is organised. Those are separate from the underlying works.

Where a book, cover, translation or recording carries its own publisher, narrator or translator credit, that credit stands and those rights remain with whoever holds them.

What your licence allows

When you use DagWorld you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to read, listen to and search the catalogue for your own use. That is the whole of it. The licence gives you access, not ownership, and it lasts as long as your access to the app lasts.

You may:

Read, listen to and watch anything in the catalogue, on your own devices.
Download books, songs, audio messages and podcast episodes inside the app for offline use.
Highlight, bookmark and take private notes.
Share a quote card produced by the app, with its attribution intact.
Quote short passages elsewhere with proper credit to the author and the book, as fair dealing or fair use allows.

You may not:

Redistribute, re-upload, publish or post the books, the narration or bulk collections of quotes anywhere else, including websites, social platforms, messaging groups, file lockers and torrents.
Extract, scrape, screen-record, transcribe or otherwise copy the text or audio out of the app, whether by hand or by automated means.
Sell, rent, sub-licence or otherwise commercialise any part of the content.
Strip, alter or obscure attribution, copyright notices, credits or watermarks.
Use the content to train, fine-tune or evaluate a machine learning model.
Circumvent download limits, device limits or any technical protection in the app.
Print or reproduce a book in whole or in substantial part.

Sharing your favourite passage with a friend is expected and welcome. Reposting a whole chapter, re-uploading a recording or a song file, or building a mirror of the catalogue is not, and we will act on it.

If you are a rights holder

If you own or control copyright in something that appears in DagWorld and you believe it is there without authorisation, send us a notice and we will look at it promptly. This includes work of yours that has been quoted, translated, narrated or misattributed to Dag Heward-Mills.

Where to send a notice

Email support@dagworld.org with "Copyright notice" in the subject line. That address reaches us directly: Benlottejnr Apps is a sole trader and handles copyright notices itself, so there is no separate agent to go through.

What a valid notice must contain

So we can act on it, please include all of the following:

The work. Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed. If several works are covered by one notice, a representative list of them.
The material. Identification of the material in DagWorld you say is infringing, and enough detail for us to find it. A book title and chapter, a quote id, or a screenshot with the surrounding text all work.
Your contact details. Name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
A good-faith statement. A statement that you believe in good faith that the use of the material in the way complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
A statement of accuracy. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
A signature. Your physical or electronic signature.

An incomplete notice slows things down, because we have to come back to you for the missing parts before we can act. Please send everything in one message where you can.

What we do with it

We acknowledge receipt, review the notice, and where it is valid we remove or disable access to the material while we investigate. We tell whoever supplied the material that we have done so, and we pass on your notice. Repeat infringers lose their account.

Filing a notice that misrepresents material as infringing can make you liable for damages, including costs and legal fees. If you are not sure whether the use is infringing, take advice before you send it.

Counter-notice

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to support@dagworld.org. It should contain:

Your physical or electronic signature.
Identification of the material that was removed, and where it appeared in the app before removal.
A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts where you are resident, or where our address is if you are outside the United States, and that you will accept service of process from the party who filed the notice or their agent.

We pass a valid counter-notice to the original complainant. If they do not tell us within ten to fourteen business days that they have started court proceedings about the material, we may restore it. We are not a court and we do not decide who owns what, we follow the process and keep both sides informed.

If you are a reader

You do not need to be a rights holder to tell us something is wrong. If you see content in DagWorld that looks infringing, misattributed, wrongly credited or altered from the original, report it and we will check.

This matters most for quotes. A quote can be attributed to the wrong book, edited away from what the author actually wrote, or drawn from a different author altogether. Every quote in the catalogue is anchored to the sentence of the book it came from when it is imported, and a quote the book does not contain is not imported, which is where most of these are caught. If one gets through, tell us. Quotes you keep in your own account are private to you and are never published.

To report something as a reader, email support@dagworld.org with:

What you are reporting, a quote, a passage, a cover or a recording.
Where you found it in the app, with a screenshot if you can.
What you believe is wrong with it, for example the wrong book, the wrong author, altered wording, or content that belongs to someone else.
Any source you have that shows the correct version.

A reader report is not a formal copyright notice and does not need the sworn statements above. We check it, and content that is likely wrong is hidden while we do.

Requests to use the content

Requests to reproduce, translate, narrate, publish or otherwise use the work of Dag Heward-Mills beyond what this page allows are for the copyright holder, not for us. We can only speak for the app. Write to support@dagworld.org and we will point you to the right place.
